It's been a big week for travel news. The PhocusWire team covered a range of topics from TikTok's widened booking scope to the latest executive moves at Expedia

Our TikTok GO coverage was a runaway success in the popularity stakes. The story provided details on the in-app booking process and travel partners involved. The social media platform’s latest move is a follow-up to its travel booking test announced last summer.

A further popular read was an opinion piece on winners and losers in agentic commerce. In the article Travelier’s Mario Gavira laid out an agentic disruption risk matrix assessing the exposure level of travel brands to agentic automation.

The team also featured research on where airlines think the industry is with retailing efforts. The article provided additional insight into where carriers see progress in their own initiatives to offer more products and services to consumers.

A second airline distribution piece focused on how modern context protocol (MCP) might fit with the current airline retailing landscape. Executives from companies including Oversee, Travelport, Travlr ID believe—for the most part—that the technology will be additive to existing standards such as IATA’s New Distribution Capability.

On a final note, it is an interesting time for a new venture fund in the travel industry.

Gharage Ventures sees things differently. It announced its €40M Fund I last month seeking out startups that can address areas such as the airport experience. Managing partner Lennard Niemann and general partner Darren Soh discussed the fund’s focus and what their ideal investment looks like.
