Much like the rest of the travel industry, travel advisors are navigating yet another period of evolution with artificial intelligence (AI).

The demise of traditional agents has been exaggerated in the past and in this particular cycle, agents have said they are optimistic about the technology. Our most popular read on PhocusWire this week delved into where and how travel advisors are putting AI to work.

We also covered big news from Omio with the multimodal transportation platform's anouncement that it has agreed to acquire Rail Europe. Alongside the acquisition, Omio announced a $10 million investment which will go towards expansion in Asia.

Meanwhile, U.S. regulators have been causing consternation with differing approaches to how ancillary fees are disclosed and charged to consumers.

Senior reporter Morgan Hines covered a $35 million fine for Hopper imposed by the Federal Trade Commission. That settlement came at the same time as the Department of Transportation ruled to give airlines to more flexibility around ancillary fee disclosures.

Our coverage of Phocuswright Europe 2026 continued with an article on how airlines are rethinking and adapting retail initiatives as AI permeates operations.

The piece was based on a panel discussion at the event in Barcelona with executives from Dohop, Travelport and Vueling.

And we published insights on the risk of AI for online travel agencies gleaned from a report from investment bank BTIG. The study concluded that margin pressure is a more probable outcome than disintermediation.
