A move from Amadeus to shut down its self-service APIs portal for developers by mid-July prompted discussion about how far this will stymie innovation.

The story, which was our most popular read on PhocusWire this week, shared opinions on the risks of open access for incumbents versus survival for travel startups. The distribution giant's enterprise portal is unaffected by the move.

We also shared research from Accenture which revealed that airlines are taking a half-hearted approach to AI. The study compared airlines to other consumer-facing industries to reveal a lag in aviation.

Travel technology providers chimed in with thoughts on the need for carriers to move beyond small pilots and embed AI as core infrastructure.

It is earnings season in the travel industry and PhocusWire covered fourth quarter and full-year results from Airbnb, Expedia Group, Marriott and Tripadvisor.

The heavy focus on artificial intelligence (AI) is unsurprising, with CEO's sharing their vision for internal efficiencies alongside ensuring their brands remain visible to consumers on AI platforms.

We also published a viewpoint on how short-term rental players need to up their game with listings. PriceLabs co-founder Richie Khandelwal discusses how the industry is built on trust how weak listings erode that trust.

Stay tuned next week for further earnings highlights.
